Avoca Valley, whirlwind alley!

Maybe we are just lucky, but the weather always seems great whenever we go to the Avoca Valley. The days are sunny and the place seems so peaceful. Avoca resident Janice Schaper hasn't forgotten one sunny day over ten years ago. She had her head down weeding in her vegetable garden, when she looked up to see a whirlwind heading straight for her. The first Janice knew about the danger was when she was knocked backwards. The trees and shrubs began to shake and Janice shook too!

Tunnel HouseLuckily the swirling vortex missed her and headed on up through the garden. Directly in its path was a tunnel house that the family used to grow vegetables in. Plastic sheeting went flying and aluminium framing was buckled beyond use. Next in line to be destroyed was a large bottle brush shrub, before the whirlwind headed out of the property and across the road.

Janice immediately phoned her husband Hans to tell him what had happened to their tunnel house. He couldn't believe it, even after being told it was true. When he saw it for himself he still couldn't quite believe it. Next time you are in Avoca and it's a sunny day, take a look over your shoulder, you might see a whirlwind coming down the road. If you don't believe it's possible, just ask Hans, he didn't too until he saw the evidence and had to fix up the damage.
