[Sad news here from Drina Sisarich. Thanks for all your help with this website Drina!]

Drina Sisarich, outgoing chair of the Heathcote Valley Community Association. Credit: Ian McLeodMy position as chair of the Heathcote Valley Community Association, which is limited by our constitution to two years, came to an end at our recently held Annual General Meeting.

I have found this a stimulating occupation and have been very encouraged by the wonderful support I have been given, especially as I stepped into the position very much as a newcomer to the village. I intend to stand for the committee again and will be keeping up my work editing the newsletter and hope with the extra time to continue writing up some of the history of the valley.

Inevitably, some of our committee members will be standing down this time and we will be looking for some new faces to fill the gaps. The work is not onerous: a monthly meeting, four half-day working bees a year, be on call to deliver newsletters occasionally and lend some brainpower when we are writing up submissions. Most of us find this rewarding and it is a great way to make friends if you are new to the valley.

Our very capable secretary, Linda Harrison, is unfortunately one of those who will be leaving her position, though she will be staying on the committee, to give help and advice to whoever takes her place, if they should need it. Please give some thought to filling this position as it is a very important one.

I hope to encourage people to write up their own personal family histories and make two copies: one for a Village Archive and one to keep for their own families. There are too many wonderful old stories being lost. I am especially pleased to have helped get the newsletter and the webpage established and been able to display the local children's art in the village. I feel very privileged to have been able to work for and with so many delightful people.
