Little piggy gets an apology
Credit: Drina Sisarich

Harriet Hog, Heathcote Kunekune. Photo: Ian McLeodIs this a new resident in Heathcote Valley or just a pig in passing? This magnificent specimen of pighood was recently seen enthusiastically and contentedly foraging on an empty section along Port Hills Road. A Kune Kune of immense proportions, we are hoping he may lend his considerable weight to our next working bee. Is there no end to the biological diversity of this wonderful valley?

A follow up visit to Port Hills Road revealed the fact that the aforementioned member of the porcine family is actually Harriet Hog, a well loved member of the property owner's family. She is 15 months old, very affectionate and well behaved. She sleeps inside and has never been known to disgrace herself while in there. We apologise to Harriet for mistaking her gender by not immediately recognising her maidenly charms, but would like her to know that she is still welcome to the working bees. “Girls can do anything, Harriet”!
