[Editor: Residents will be all too aware of the changes happening in our valley. This piece was submitted by one of readers and may reflect what many of us will be feeling. What do you think?]
I've come from one of those hick towns back up there in the north. Being out here in the valley is very similar, but different if you get my drift. When I go into the big smoke and return and I leave the Ferry Road roundabout, get onto that short motorway, all my senses take a leap for joy. The openness, the fresh air, the comfort and beauty of the hills, and those fields with horses and cows.
The freedom the horses show often gives me an indication of the weather to come by their galloping and trotting. They know when a storm is coming. Their owners do too and cover them up to protect them from the coldness of a wintry blast. I always have a look out to see where Molly the cow and Harry the bull are too. They are both living out their retirement, after being rescued from the 'you know what'.
I know the so called green belt keeps moving its boundary. But why? I keep asking myself this, and others ask too. Surely we don't have to have a huge city, why don't they just start somewhere else. Let's stop I say before Molly and Harry and those horses and pukekos lose their freedom. Like the swamp plants and other creatures already have. Well that's how I see it.
