Large rock hits Heathcote home. Credit: Dave Lorimer. The first instance was on 9 January this year around 11.30 pm. We had only been home a very short while when there was a loud sound of smashing glass like jars falling out of a pantry cupboard. I found a glass panel in our front door smashed and a 2 kg boulder on our bedroom floor.

This could have only happened by someone being on the property as the door is not seen from the roadway. The police were called immediately and I became aware the next day of properties around the valley having the same thing done. At least seven to eight that I am aware of. Others have also called the police.

Then again in the early hours of last Monday morning 20 April around 5.28 am we had another breakage. As we had not been home from Thursday till late Sunday night, we were not sure when it happened.

When I went outside to have a look there was a bit of wind blowing, and I could not see anything. I assumed at first that it had been broken over the weekend period and the wind had blown it out.

I was then made aware however of further properties having the same damage around the same period of time, at least six this time. Our neighbour a few doors along the road had rung the police immediately when it happened. I did not find the boulder until later in the day as it was behind a large plant pot.

I have again been in contact with the police and their advice is to call 111 immediately if we hear or see anything. Unless they catch them in the area there is not much to be done, unfortunately. But your call might just be the one to make the difference.
