CB113 bush locomotive. Credit: Ferrymead Heritage ParkFerrymead Heritage Park is certainly the place to be if you have trains on your mind. The Solid Energy Trains Extravaganza is being held on Friday, Saturday and Sunday 2, 3 and 4 January. It features three days of, you guessed it, trains, trains and more trains!

You can start out by taking a ride on the W192 steam locomotive. It was the first one built by the Government Railway Workshops at Addington in 1889, and one of only two of that class built. Then you can look over WD357, the only surviving Baldwin locomotive in New Zealand, and then see CB113, a bush railway locomotive from Ngahere on the West Coast.

If you are looking for something more energetic, you can search the park for mini-trains on the Train Trail. Complete it correctly and be in to win a Hornby model train set.

The Ferrymead 2Ft Railway Society will also be running a passenger service all day, each day. This small train has no springs, so be in to experience a fun and bumpy ride! It's just $2 a trip.

To further satisfy your interest, other locomotives on show will be the Price CB113, D140 as well as Electric Engines EC and EO. There will also be railway jiggers, rail cars and rolling carriages to look at and the railway signal box will be open for the public to explore.
