A lot of you lovely people have been involved one way or another in the fundraising venture for the update of our St Mary's Village Hall on Martindales Road. Well, the very good news is that work has commenced on Stage One.
As we speak, the builders are busy demolishing and rebuilding the meeting room, entrance way, kitchen and loos and building us a gorgeous new deck. This work is due for completion at Easter.
Most of you will also be aware that this is only half of the work and
so the fundraising continues for Stage Two! We have nine fundraising
events planned for this year and I would love to see you at some, if
not most of them. There is something planned for everyone, no matter
what your interests are.
Up first is a Garden Party. This is to be held at the home of Jean Cumming; some of you will have been to the Dressy Drinks event at her lovely home. Well now you have the opportunity to visit her beautiful garden as well. Jean’s garden is frequently used for weddings/photo’s and amongst the gorgeous features is a formal English garden (with a NZ flavour of course).
We have held garden party’s at Jean’s before and believe me (I’ve said this before) it’s the perfect venue. You will be supplied with a superb afternoon tea and it’s just a lovely way to relax. We would love you to bring a friend along and soak up the atmosphere of this gorgeous venue.
Tickets are available from me at a cost of $15/head, and you can phone me on 379 4062 (remember - we are fundraising, and you would pay close to this for your latte and muffin at some cafes). The Garden Party will be held on Sunday 15 March, from 2 to 4.30 pm. Jean’s address is 146 Bridle Path Road, Heathcote Valley.
Should it be extremely wet and cold, we will be relocating the event to The Church of the Ascension, at 39 Major Hornbrook Road, Mt Pleasant. It's also a gorgeous venue with a lovely garden, but also has the added bonus of being able to house significant numbers in warmth and comfort!
Another event that is being planned is a Fun Walk. The details are not yet completely decided but I would love you to put the date in your diaries and start talking about it to your friends. It will be held on Sunday 19 April, at 1 pm. We are planning to start and finish the walk at the Church of St Mary in the Heathcote Valley and the distance will probably be about 6 km (or less, if you want to duck down a side street!) through the lovely streets of Heathcote.
It will be an ‘easy’ walk; there will be no time limit and there are no large hills involved. We are hoping to get a couple of celebrities to walk this with us. The idea is that you do the walk at a cost of $10 each. You can get people to sponsor you, at whatever they wish to pay for your exercise! Phone me on 379 4062 for details.
Or, if you are feeling like you don’t really want to get out and pound the pavements yourself, you could sponsor me! I will take any donation to do this, but I am personally hoping to raise at least $500 for the project by doing this walk. What ever you can raise to help us would be terrific.
Please tell everyone you know about this, we are probably not going to do a huge amount of advertising as we don’t want to have to get into the traffic management scenario, but there is no reason why we can’t get a good crowd of people out to do this walk on the day. It will be held wet or fine and we would just love it if you could join us! If you would like to find out more, drop me an email.
Thank so much to you all for taking the time to read this, I appreciate your interest in what we are doing at the hall. The facility will be beautiful when finished and will be a real asset for the valley. I look forward to hearing from you all.
